Ayurveda, the ancient system of holistic medicine, views hair as a reflection of one’s overall health and well-being. According to Ayurvedic principles, hair problems often stem from imbalances in the body's three fundamental energies, known as the doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each Dosha influences different aspects of hair health, and when these energies are out of balance, it can lead to issues such as hair fall, thinning, or dryness. Ayurveda teaches that by restoring balance to the Doshas, one can achieve and maintain healthy, vibrant hair.

The Remedies of the Ayurveda

The pillars of the Ayurveda are of a healthy lifestyle. It emphasizes the use of natural remedies, the most popular being that of the various herbs, oils, and therapeutic practices passed down through the eons. By adhering to these principles, one can nourish their hair from within, and promote growth, strength, and vitality from within.

Amla: The King of Vitamin C

Amla, also known as the Indian gooseberry, is revered in the Ayurveda for its high vitamin C content along with its plethora of essential fatty acids. These factors play a crucial role in nourishing your hair follicles, strengthening the roots, and promoting a overall hair growth. Amla is most beneficial for the Pitta and Vata doshas

Bhringraj: The Raja of Hair Growth

Bhringraj, often referred to as the “king of herbs” in Ayurveda, is renowned for its remarkable ability to stimulate hair regrowth. It is particularly effective in preventing hair loss, promoting hair thickness, and preventing premature greying. The herb is best known to pacify the Vata Dosha, which is known to cause hair issues when under stress.

 Brahmi: The Soothing Herb

Brahmi, is an ayurvedic herb that excels at calming and rejuvenating your scalp. It improves your blood circulation and strengthens your hair follicles. Brahmi is also known to reduce mental stress on you, which is a common cause for hair fall. Although you may use Brahmi for any Dosha, it is best to use it for Pitta.

How to Incorporate These Remedies:

Scalp Massages

Regularly massaging your scalp with oils infused with these herbs can improve blood circulation, nourish the roots, and encourage healthy hair growth. This ancient technique not only nourishes the hair follicles but also enhances overall well being by fostering a sense of calm and tranquility.

Herbal Hair Masks

Create hair masks using a combination of these herbs in powder form, mixed with natural ingredients like yogurt, honey, or coconut oil. Apply these masks once a week to rejuvenate your scalp and stimulate growth.

In Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of holistic wellness, hair care is seen as more than just a cosmetic routine. It's a sacred practice that balances the mind, body, and spirit, leading to strong, healthy hair from the inside out. Post-shower care is especially important, as this is the time when your hair is most vulnerable and receptive to nourishment.

An Ayurvedic Post-Shower Routine

1. Gently Towel Dry with Microfiber or Cotton Towels

Right after stepping out of the shower, pat your hair dry with a microfiber towel or soft cotton cloth. Avoid rubbing your hair, as this causes friction and leads to breakage. Microfiber towels help to reduce frizz while absorbing excess moisture without stripping your hair of its natural oils.

2. Apply an Ayurvedic Hair Oil (Veera Essentials Kesha Amrit Rejuvenating Hair Elixir)

While your hair is still damp, apply a small amount of Ayurvedic hair oil like the Veera Essentials Kesha Amrit Rejuvenating Hair Elixir. This oil is packed with potent botanicals such as cold-pressed Moringa oil, Bhringraj, and Amla—all clinically proven to stimulate hair growth, strengthen follicles, and protect against damage.

How to Apply:

  • Pour a few drops of the oil into your palms and rub them together to warm the product.
  • Gently massage the oil into your scalp using circular motions. This helps stimulate blood circulation, which is essential for healthy hair growth.
  • Smooth the remaining oil over the mid-lengths and ends of your hair to lock in moisture and prevent breakage.

    3. Detangle with a Wide-Tooth Comb

After applying the oil, use a wide-tooth comb to detangle your hair, starting from the ends and working your way up. Ayurvedic philosophy emphasizes the importance of being gentle with your hair to avoid unnecessary stress on the follicles. Detangling also helps distribute the oil evenly, ensuring your hair is properly nourished from root to tip.

    4. Massage with Ayurvedic Herbs

Incorporate a scalp massage into your routine to stimulate hair follicles and promote growth. Using a natural scalp massager or your fingertips, gently massage your scalp in circular motions for 3-5 minutes.

For an added Ayurvedic touch, infuse your scalp massage with herbal treatments like Brahmi or Neem. These herbs soothe the scalp, reduce dandruff, and balance Pitta dosha, which is often responsible for scalp inflammation and hair thinning.

    5. Air Dry for Maximum Hair Health

Skip the heat styling tools and allow your hair to air dry naturally. Ayurveda advises against excessive heat on your hair, as it can aggravate the Pitta dosha, leading to hair thinning, breakage, and dryness. If you’re in a rush, use the cool setting on your blow dryer, but avoid direct heat.

    6. Seal in Hydration with a Leave-In Ayurvedic Treatment

Once your hair is dry or nearly dry, use a lightweight Ayurvedic leave-in treatment or serum to seal in moisture. Look for products containing ingredients like Aloe Vera and Coconut Milk to hydrate your strands, smooth frizz, and add shine without weighing your hair down.

    7. Braid for Protection Overnight

Before heading to bed, consider loosely braiding your hair to protect it from breakage and tangles. Ayurveda often recommends braiding as a way to lock in moisture and keep your hair strong. Plus, it encourages the flow of energy in the body, leading to calmness and relaxation.

Why an Ayurvedic Post-Shower Routine Works

Ayurvedic hair care is rooted in balancing the body’s doshas (energies) to maintain optimal hair health. This post-shower routine emphasizes natural ingredients and gentle techniques to avoid causing damage to your delicate hair structure. Incorporating powerful Ayurvedic herbs and oils that are scientifically shown to boost hair strength, hydration, and growth ensures your hair receives the nourishment it needs to thrive.

By following this Ayurvedic post-shower haircare routine regularly, you’ll soon notice thicker, shinier, and healthier hair, the way nature intended.
